What can be the reason for that and how can I fix it? Many thanks in advance!

I got the error code 0xC004F012. I tried the troubleshooter, it didn't do anything. I checked the services and and found that the software protection platform was not running. I tried to start it from the services menu and the cmd prompt but i got error code 5, access denied. I ran the DISM and sfc in the cmd prompt but it didn't find any issues. I checked the registry and no files were missing for sppsvc.exe and the start value was at 2. I tried refreshing the system and reinstalling windows but that didn't fix the problem either.

This machine was activated but after performing the upgrade, there was a watermark to activate Windows on the bottom-right corner of the screen. Clicking that watermark takes to activation page where following error displayed:

I have tried the activation trouble shooter multiple times, including doing the two restarts after the troubleshooter completes. Within a couple of hours at most the watermark reappears in the lower right corner every time. What I have found odd though is that it still allows me to update windows and this system is listed with no conflicts on my MS account so I am very confused by this overall.

Microsoft operating systems such as Windows 10 have an activation system that allows you to "legalize" your OS. Basically, activation consists of registering a product key, so each operating system has a unique product key that will help you register your Windows 10 and thus access all the functions of the operating system in a legal and legitimate way. Obviously to acquire this product key you must pay for the Windows license. But what happens if when activating or updating you receive the error 0xC004F012?

Usually this error 0xC004F012 in Windows activation is usually caused by the registration of the product key, which may have errors. This can happen during the first activation of Windows, but also during a major update in which the activation status is lost.

I received this laptop computer as a gift from my uncle. He purchased it at Costco in December 2018. It is a HP Laptop Model# HP 14-DF0023CL with Windows 10. I registered it when it first powered up as I was prompted to do. It worked fine for over a year. 3 days ago I noticed an Activate Windows notification in the lower right corner of my display. I attempted to activate again and received this error message:ERROR CODE: 0xC004F012I have not changed any component or had the laptop repaired. I still have the box it came in; it was security sealed and brand new. Why did I get this message? Is it possible my activation code or 25 character Key changed or hacked? This laptop was trouble free for 25 months and did register when I first started it. Microsoft said the only person that could change it is me and I didn't do it or even know how to do it Why would I change it? Should they have a record of my initial registration? I use this for my home business and don't want to risk losing my data. Please help.
